Site Selection Criteria

Interest in the ALP is very high and there are only a few towers available to cover Colorado. So all applications are judged against site selection criteria to determine a score for the site. Anemometer towers will then be installed at the sites with the highest scores as the towers become available and the weather permits.

The site selection criteria as as follows:

  1. Likelihood of wind energy project - Is there a strong chance that the recipient will install a wind turbine if a good resource is identified?
  2. Type of wind energy project - What type of wind energy project will be considered if the wind resource looks good? For this program, small scale wind projects are encouraged and utility-scale wind farms are discouraged.
  3. Suitability of location – is there a reasonable chance that the wind will be in a Class 2 or better area?
  4. Geographic diversity – is this an area which has not yet hosted an anemometer?
  5. Patience - Applicants that have a good site and have been on the waiting list the longest and remain interested will be given some preference.
