The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department (ECE) at Colorado State University is offering a unique opportunity for high school and undergraduate students to participate in a summer internship program. The program and research are centered on particle accelerators and RF devices.
Located in beautiful Fort Collins, Colorado, the CSU Accelerator Group will afford interns the chance to learn about this field of engineering and physics, while working side by side with current students in the ECE Department. Sandra Biedron and Stephen Milton, ECE professors and accomplished researchers in the area of particle accelerators, have instituted this program to expose students to the extensive and exciting applications of this technology.
A summary of accelerators and the uses has been outlined recently in the 2010 Department of Energy Report, 2010 Doe “Accelerators for America’s Future” (http://www.acceleratorsamerica.org/)
Program Information
To be considered for the program, please provide a current transcript and an essay on your interest in science, engineering, and technology to Karen.ungerer@colostate.edu by 15 March 2015. Notifications will be made by 10 April 2015.
The incumbent will work alongside the Professors and the Graduate Students in the areas of particle accelerator component design and bench-testing. Several lectures will also be given to the incumbent. The incumbent will be responsible for reading assignments, attending lectures, and participating in simulation-based research and laboratory testing. The incumbent will gain a basic knowledge of particle accelerators, their uses, and their components. The incumbent will be required to keep a log of their activities and provide a copy of their logbook along with a final report at the end of the program.
Note: If students come to CSU as an undergraduate, there are paid research opportunities.
